Evergreen trees are trees which retain their foliage year-round, rather than losing their leaves annually like deciduous trees do. There are a number of different types of evergreen trees, and some distinct advantages to being evergreen as opposed to deciduous. Many tropical trees are evergreens, and evergreens are also very common in temperate climates. In colder regions of the world, evergreens are more rare, but still present. It is all too easy to forget that there are regions of the world that are faced with environments that are severely damaged. One such region is Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh, India. Once a lush, sub-tropical environment, it has been reduced by inappropriate land use to dry lands with evapo transpiration (evaporation combined with transpiration of vegetation) exceeding rainfall. These dry land environments are the final act before full desertification takes hold.
