Shiva is the destroyer of the world, following bhrama the creator and vishnu the preserver, Shiva is responsible for change both in the form of death and destruction and in the positive sense of the shedding of old habits. In Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram or Truth, Goodness and Beauty, Shiva also represents the most essential goodness. Shiva - Rudra is considered to be the destroyer of evil and sorrow.Shiva is 'tri netra' or three eyed, and is 'neela kantha' - blue necked . Shiva - Ardhanareeswara is conceived in his unborn, invisible form as the Lingam. It is always accompagnied by the Yoni, which is the female principle, surrounding the base of the Lingam. The Lingam represents the male creative energy of Shiva is both man and woman.Shiva has many forms, (Sadyojaata - earth, Vaamadeva - water, Aghora - fire, Tatpurusha - air and Eesaana - space). The names of the deified faces with their elements are Mahadeva (earth), Bhairava (fire), Nandi (air), Uma (water) and Sadasiva (space)
