  • About Me

    • Jazz, western classical music, free improvisation, weird electronic stuff, drum'n'bass, dub, dubstep, pre-war acoustic blues, 1940s/50s rhythm'n'blues, late 1970s punk

    • Mostly prefer older ones (pre-1960) Phantom of the Opera (1925 silent version), A Night at the Opera (Marx Brothers) (but I don't really like opera!). 1940s film noir, 1950s/60s sci-fi. Alfred Hitchcock, Clint Eastwood, David Lynch. Here's an attempt at my Top 10 movies, in chronological order : Phantom of the Opera (1925), King Kong (1933), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), A Night at the Opera (1935) (and all other Marx Brothers films), Destry Rides Again (1939), The Gangster (1947), North by Northwest (1959), The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972), High Plains Drifter (1973), Eraserhead (1976), Mystery Train (1989). Actually that makes 11 - never mind. I love Laurel & Hardy, but their short films are generally better than their longer ones. Also classic cartoons, especially Tom & Jerry. I do like some modern films! - Unforgiven (1992), The Bridges of Madison County (1995) - are they modern enough?

    • Football, the occasional classic serial or film, not much else. South Park was quite good, but like most things they went on for too long - should have quit after the first few series.

    • Classic literature : Dickens, Hardy, Trollope, Austen, Wilkie Collins, Arnold Bennett, Emile Zola (in translation). Not much modern stuff but I like William Trevor, also Kazuo Ishiguro.

    • Walking in the country and town, occasional light jogging. Watching football (Derby County FC) - does that count?

    • Friendly, relaxed, calm

    • Kind, considerate, intelligent, friendly

    • Music, art, literature, mathematics, science, industrial & transport history, football, photography.

    • I usually dream about finding money in the street. Sometimes it comes true!
